River Clyde, Renfrewshire

5 miles / 8 km

A short walk over the plains to the River Clyde and then up along the river banks on a good path.

Pretty Easy

The walk is on some reasonably good flat paths. There is some sticky vegetation on the last bit from Mar Hall Woods to the river bank. Good shoes and plenty of drinks are recommended.

Train to Bishopton train station 4 times an hour from Glasgow/Paisley.

The walk starts from Bishopton train station by taking the Gledstane Road down to the left to Greenock Road. Follow this road for approx. 800 yards/meters to a crossroad. Take the Ferry Road to the right, signposted Erskine Bridge. This road, make that pavement, takes you over the motorway and past the Blantyre Monument to a road to the left signposted Clyde Coastal Path. Follow the direction down to a car park and then the signposted path all the way through the dense Mar Hall Woods to a path between two golf courses.

The muddy, grassy path takes you down to the far better path on the river bank. Follow this path, which improves a lot the further you walk all the way to Erskine Bridge. The views over to Bowling and the Kilpatrick Hills are good here.

The path are well signposted and much used here. It ends 1 mile / 1.5 km from the Erskine Bridge where the path takes you up to the bus stops at Newshot Drive where this walk ends.

McGill's Bus 757 to Paisley/Glasgow Airport 2 - 3 times an hour.
McGill's Bus 23/X23 to Glasgow/Renfrew/Braehead 4 - 6 times an hour.

Enjoy the walk !!
