Clydebank

4 miles / 7 km

A short, easy walk down the Clyde & Forth Canal from Clydebank shopping centre to the end of the canal at Bowling.

Easy

An easy walk alongside the canal. Some drinks and good shoes are still recommended. The views towards the Kilpatrick hills is good at the end of the walk. This is a good winter/spring/autumn walk if the cyclists are to be avoided. This path is normally full of cyclists during the summertime and can be too crowded.

Train to Clydebank railway station from Glasgow/Partick 4 times an hour.

Walk from the Clydebank railway station through either the shopping mall or up the Kilbowie Road to the Clyde & Forth Canal. At the canal, turn to the left down the canal past some houses and then some housing estates. The path is a good tarmac path and easy going.

The canal passes through these housing estates for the first mile/ 1.5 km before a sharp left turn takes it down to the Dumbarton Road. The walk crosses this road on a level crossing.

Use the green/red man buttons and cross this road. The canal and the walk makes a right turn and continues down towards the river.

The canal and the walk crosses under the Erskine Bridge and the views towards the Kilpatrick hills becomes a lot better. The infamous Cardiac Hill on the Kilpatrick to Loch Humphrey/The Slacks path/walk is clearly visible from here. There are some moored up canal boats and other boats shortly before the canal enters the basin, passes a cycle shop and goes under a disused bridge before the canal ends up at the Clyde River.

From the end of the canal, retrace your steps up the cycle shop and either take the walks/cycle path on the bridge to the left. I prefer to walk up the small hill to Dumbarton Road and then this road to the left towards Dumbarton past the old Bowling Harbour to Bowling train stop.

Train from Bowling to Glasgow/Partick 2 times an hour.

Enjoy the walk !!
