Gleniffer Braes, Paisley

An up and down the Gleniffer Braes walk with a height difference of 400 feet / 120 meters. The middle part is undulating too.

This is a walk with two pretty substantial hill climbs and a bit of a muddy, slippery descent. This is not a walk for those with even the slightest mobility problem as the descent from the Robertson Car Park to Foxbar is both slippery, muddy and awkward. Other parts of this path is also slippery, muddy. Walking poles and good shoes is a good idea on this walk. The walk down to the waterfall with the return is slightly dodgy to say at least.



McGills Bus 51 from Paisley town hall 4 times an hour to the first stop on the Caplethill Road after the Glenburn Road - Caplethill Road crossroad after 10 minutes on the bus.
From this bus stop, walk back the way for 50 yards / 50 meters and cross the road at the "Gleniffer Braes" signpost. Follow this road, the Glenfield Road, to the "Gleniffer Braes Country Park" signpost. Follow this road who then becomes a gravel path.



The path is pretty steep at the beginning before it levels up. At the signpost for the waterfall, walk down the narrow path and admire the waterfall.



Double back again and follow the path to the right which now takes you to the road up to Paisley Golf Course. Cross the road over to a small carpark and a good gravel road. After 400 yards/meters, the path climbs up the hill, past some benches and up to the bridge, crossing the Gleniffer Burn. The path now takes you around some conifer trees (where the local Highland Cattle may gather to observe the local wildlife... walkers like us) before the walk crosses the Sargeantlaw Road. The path on the other side of the road takes the walk straight over to the Robertson Carpark, better known as the Carpark In The Sky. A name it really deserves.


The views here are really outstanding and perhaps the best in the whole of Renfrewshire. To continue the walk, after admiring the views, follow the carpark to the road and then cross the road to the path going down to Foxbar.



I am not a fan of this grassy, slippery and rocky path, to be honest. It has some very steep descents on some rocky terrain. I am not a big fan of damaging myself by breaking legs and arms. Hence my reluctance to use this path. Walking poles is a good idea. Take your time and be very careful down this path. The path ends at a grassy bank at Foxbar. Take the road to the right and you should now be able to spot the Londis shop and the bus shelter just before this shop. The walk ends at the bus shelter.
