The walk is mostly steep, exposed walking/climbing during the first half of the walk/to the top of this hill. The final half is a steep descent with some more flat parts in between.

Hard

This is a climb to the top of the highest hill above Largs, the Greeto Mast at 990 feet /302 meters above sea level. It has a total height gain of 880 feet/ 252 meters over a distance of 1.5 miles / 2.5 km. It is also an exposed walk (sun, wind) with some stairs to climb and stairs to descend. It is therefore a hard walk where walking poles is a good support and help. The path is very good though from the start to the end. Good shoes and plenty of water are required. This is not a walk recommended to those suffering from vertigo and/or having unsteady legs/bad heart.

The walk starts with a taxi from the Largs train station up to the Greeto Bridge Trailhead. The first bit of the walk is very steep through a couple of tarmacked zig-zag bends. Just after a council work area, the trail splits into two parts. Follow the left path here.




The path takes you ut to some very welcome stairs in the hillside. This is steep climbing/walking who requires all your concentration. The views from the top of the stairs is very good. The path now follows an undulating terrace high above Largs and a school.



This path ends up in another staircase. Some very steep stairs indeed and the climbing/walking is very exposed. Above the staircase, there are some more climbs before the path becomes more agreeable flat.

The flat is less steep here but still pretty exposed before the mast and the top of the hill comes into view. There is a nice rest area here with a table and chairs.



The 360-degree round-view is superb here on a good sunny day and very rewarding. Enjoy !!


The path continues over the hill to another staircase which takes you down a pretty steep descent to the Gogo Glen. The path is very good here. The path ends up on a gravel road. Take this road to the right again, down the glen.



The road is flat in the beginning before end up in a steep descent down to the start of this walk. Instead of ordering a taxi back to Largs, this walk continues down Bellesdale Avenue, Flatt Road, Gateside Street and then Aitken Street to the left back to Largs train station, where this walk ends.
