Largs, North Ayrshire.

A pretty hard but still gentle and scenic walk through two glens from Clyde Coast And Garnock Valley Crematorium. The path is firm with some good gravel. The climb up the first glen is pretty hard. The rest of the walk is very scenic and pretty gentle. Good shoes and plenty of drink are recommended. This walk is good for Nordic Walking for those into this. A real charmer of a walk. I was charmed and taken in. This walk is a pretty good walk for the whole family too.

Pretty Easy

The walk is pretty easy. But most of it is hard to very hard. The bus or train/taxi, at least 1.5 hours, to the start at Clyde Coast And Garnock Valley Crematorium, is both long and tedious. The bog part, which can and must be avoided by a detour to the left after leaving the top, is hard too.

The walk is best done after a long period of sunny, dry weather. Preferably on a sunny, clear day, as the scenery is fantastic on a clear day. Good shoes and plenty of drinks are required here.

The walk starts from the bus stop at Clyde Coast And Garnock Valley Crematorium. Take the road to the right and cross it onto the pavement on the other side. At the end of the pavement, follow the verge on this road for 300 yards/meters to a small parking space with a CCTV sign on it. Take this gravel road to the left up the hill. The gravel road merges with the far better gravel road coming up from Mills Milk after 300 yards/meters. The road is now climbing this glen.

The climb ends up on the sort of mountain pass between these two glens. The good road crosses this (sort of..) mountain pass before it comes to a crossroad. Take the road to the left. The views towards the north-west are good here.



The road becomes a bit undulating before it crests a hilltop where both Largs and Great Cumbrae can be spotted at the end of the glen in the distance. Both these pictures below tell this story.







At the next crossroad, take the road down the left again. The road now takes you down to the bridge that has given the name to this walk... Greeto Bridge. The picture below is taken 150 yards/meters after the bridge, looking back at it.




This bridge is not exactly the same size as the Forth Bridge or Erskine Bridge but the surrounding hills and the canyon it crosses are the star here.

There is a much-used path going down to Gogo Water from here to the end of the forest. I have yet to walk it. It is on my to-do list though and this walk will be added to this page when completed.
The road down this narrow river valley is really good and interesting with good views all the way.




The road is flat in the beginning before ending up in a steep descent down to the start of this walk. Instead of ordering a taxi back to Largs, this walk continues down Bellesdale Avenue, Flatt Road, Gateside Street and then Aitken Street to the left back to Largs train station, where this walk ends.
