A charming, easy walk along the river

An easy walk. A bit muddy for the first half a mile / 1 km down at the river but still very good.

Bus to Renfrew Fire Station from Glasgow or Paisley 6 - 8 times an hour.

This walk is more a walk for the local population. It is still a walk which is short but still has some charming scenery which should also interest walkers from further afield who may be interested in a one-hour-long early morning or an evening walk. This walk is a bit of a charmer.

The walk starts from the bus stops outside the Renfrew Fire Station and Library. Take Porterfield Road past the Post Office and then Babcock to the path signposted "Swing Bridge via White Cart Water". The path is a bit muddy and slippery first. Proper shoes are therefore recommended.



Cross the road just before the bridge. Beware of the traffic. The path is on proper solid ground for the rest of the walk. The path follows Renfrew Golf Course to the right and the White Cart Water to the left until it merges with Black Cart Water. Those two waters become River Cart for a couple of hundred meters before the River Cart merges with the much larger and wider Clyde River.





There are some benches here where you can enjoy the (mostly) silence and the two rivers. The scenery is pretty good.
The path now follows the Clyde River up and past the new Renfrew Bridge. The path goes a bit inland and over a small manmade hill before it ends up in Ferry Road where you can either continue the walk (1 mile/2 km) on a good path to Braehead Shopping Centre or take the bus back to Glasgow or Paisley (6-10 times an hour).
