A scenic walk on the beaches and esplanades between Stevenston and Ardrossan. Access to the beaches depends on the tides. Low tide means the beach between Stevenston and Saltcoats can be walked. High tide means the walk has to be relocated to the esplanade. The rest of the walk is not that low/high tide dependent. The scenery is magnificent.

Easy

Very easy, in fact. But this is still a charming walk. This is also a perfect walk for multi-generational families.

Train to Stevenston train stop from Glasgow Central/Paisley/Johnstone 2-3 times an hour.

From the train stop, take the road to the left, Shore Road towards the beach for the next 700 yards/meters until you reach the Shore Road Parking to the right. It is very important that the tarmac path is followed over the bridge as the small stream, Stevenston Burn, the bridge is crossing is deep. After crossing the bridge, and depending on the tide, you can either cross over the sand dunes and head for the bridge or you can follow the path all the way to it merges with the beach.




I prefer the beach but high tide means that the esplanade is the only viable solution between here and Seaview Road in Saltcoast. Follow the coastline here as there are two towers you can climb (for free). As the childish man I am.... Yes, I have climbed both of them. It is recommended.



The waterfront is really good here, past the Saltcoast Harbour (closed) and along to the other tower, which is climbable on some stairs. The rest of the walk follows esplanade next to the beach, much used by both the locals and visitors from Glasgow.



At the Souuth Beach Road, take this road to the Ardrossan South Beach railway station where this walk ends.
